GoodKingRichard--I always liked that Fireman Sam theme when I lived in London. Some cool changes and a tempo/rhythmic structure reminiscent of the re-arranged "Reelin' in the Years" on AIA. Being a theme song from a childrens' program, it's cheery and completely irony free, so that's obviously where Maldwyn Pope (I think that's his name) parts ways with Don + Walt.

This is a silly confession, but I'm among fellow Danheads, so here goes: when I was in my first couple months in London, struggling at work and feeling homesick, I used to get strange comfort from sitting down with my two-year-old and watching the opening and closing credits to Fireman Sam. I didn't understand the healing power of Fireman Sam back then, but in noting the Dan-ness of the theme song, GoodKingRichard seems to have put his finger on it.

Not a Riddler--Expound!

Hankers--I don't know if any of "Day of the Locust" was BEHIND any of the lyrics; it's read in zillions of high school & college English classes, but I have no idea if it ever lurked in the Dan's backpacks. Maybe it's just a "folding space" of the zeitgeist, but it sure gave me the grins. BTW--you can't grow oleander outdoors in New York. It's a zone 7 plant (Ca., the South).

Clas--"I own my wife"--here's hoping that's a translation glitch like "were" and "where...."

maj--aaahh, Grasshopper, a great interviewer groks what to ask. To paraphrase Rene Daumal, the last question depends on the first, and the first question depends on the last. So...?

St. Al--a birthday's NEVER just another day! A chill one to you, and get well fast so you can properly celebrate! Great to hear you mention Sweetpea Atkinson. I know him from his work with Don Was (Was/Not Was & Orquestra Was). I just love him on "Born To Laugh At Tornadoes" & "What Up Dog."

Roy Ol' Man--Now that I think of it, the growing zone of oleander gives us more ammunition for the Annandale, Va. theory. I haven't read Styron's book--too depressing. (Not!) But my Fun reading is on hiatus for the time being; only Quest reading (work & project) for a while. What do you think? Tell me about it. And how's your son's band?

Also, regarding interviews, the one from Mojo was excellent. While the interviewer says the expected about how hard it is to get straight answers from them, he was able to do just that on some personal questions.

Ah, Was (Not Was) -- twisted pop music. Ozzy Osbourne, Doug Fieger, and Mel Torme all on the same album. For a member of the Loyal Fandom, what's not to like?

Oleander, not sure what debate you are having concerning Annendale, but I lived in VA for many years and until I happened upon the official site I thought they were speaking of that Annendale. Oleander grows all over the place in VA (and a great deal of it is wild) . Another reason I thought it was the VA Annendale was the mention of Wm & Mary (while not in Annendale it not too far from it). On an unrelated note, I see Stranger had an effect on your vocabulary too.

Hey Dan heads...in case you haven't noticed this week is the 25th anniversary of the release of Steely Dan's debut 'Can't Buy A Thrill'!!! so let's all wish Donald & Walter congratulations and reflect on the awesome-ness of them being able to survive in the major bull shit world of the record biz...maybe the guys will reward us with a three song ep for christmas!!!!!

25 years ago: Nixon had just been re-elected (despite Watergate)...the Reds played the A's in an exciting World Series...All in the Family and The Waltons were the top rated shows on TV.....FM radio was starting to get hip with hours of commercial free lp tracks (remember 'Starship Trooper'!) and ABC Records put it's publicity machine into action and turned a stragglin, bunch of cynical (and shy!) New Yorkers into a top rock act....speaking of old video clips...has anyone ever seen Steely Dan's first tv appearance from American Bandstand, I believe it was from a show in Dec.'72..now THAT would be something for the Hall of Fame! (I always wondered what David Palmer was doing during this song?!?) So go home , get high and crank up Can't Buy A Thrill!!!!one more time.......film idea 0081 ...smoke filled room...LA 1972.....steely music in background...news flash about the Pentagon Papers...."I was attending USC in the fall of '72 when my life took a peculiar turn....." cut to USC library...(from the forth coming volume : fiction inspired by steely dan {penguin paperback})

Yo! "This ain't funny any more." I use to reply, to any reference of a scarcity of something, 'As rare as a Steely Dan concert.' I can still say that because I've never had the pleasure of seeing them. It is unfortunate that I'm not a lover of that pseudo funny man David Letterman, or I could have at least caught them on the tube. So when one take's into account the release of Gaucho in 1979 as their last studio album, what's another 6-8 months of waiting. Any of their material is timeless, so that should hold you (me) until then.

Charlie Rose - Yeah, that would be a good show for the lads to appear on - But what if Tom Snider has O.J. on as competition on his show? Complete with the Bronco? Charlie will probably try and keep it quiet and I'll miss that show as well.

I was in Keene N.H. last weekend at the Clarence DeMar Marathon - Driving to catch the bus to the start line in Gilsum, N.H., heard "Everyone's Gone to the Movies." Oh babies c'mon.

Skinny Girl: Countdown to Ecstacy was my first SD album also. It had no hit singles to draw attention to it, so part of the appeal was the album cover; but mostly, it was because I'd heard this odd, post nuke song called KING OF THE WORLD on one of the "progressive rock" stations. The tune was beautiful but lurched like a rolling weevil. Burt Bacharach with the hiccups couldn't have written a melody that catchy. When I saw that song on an album I bought it. I'm not usually given to overeaction but thirty seconds into MY OLD SCHOOL I had a lifetime jones for the music. I told a friend of mine and he said that their first album was almost as good. My response was "Yeah, right." Not wanting to spoil the reverie by listening to some rookie effort, I didn't buy CAN'T BUY A THRILL for a long time thereafter. Dick Nixon and I were damn clever that year.

Wasn't that the year that Neil Diamond was placed on Richard Nixon's drug song hit-list? Did SD ever make that distinguished honor roll?

THE NEXT VOICE YOU HEAR

Gather your deeds and your possessions, Whatever certainty you've known, Forget your heroes, You don't really need those last few lessons.

Stand in the open; The next voice you hear will be your own.

Well alright, they knew how they could hurt you, And you let them cut you to the bone. But God forbid, you allow them to rid you of your virtue!

Forget their laughter; The next voice you hear will be your own.

The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear will be your own.

Throw down your truth and check your weapons. Don't look to see if you're alone, Just stand your ground, And don't turn around -- whatever happens. Don't ask directions; The next voice you hear will be your own.

The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear... The next voice you hear will be your own.

Did Jackson Browne really beat up Darryl Hannah? (Also known as "the question that won't go away".)

Answer: NO. Both Jackson and Darryl have denied those old tabloid reports at one time or another. The fact is that Jackson phoned the police that night. The details of that infamous night will never be known by anyone except for the two parties involved. Jackson is a very private individual and we should all respect his desire for privacy. Whatever really happened that night is none of our business. To those that are stuck for an answer when someone raises the question, I usually respond with a statement about not believing what you read in the tabloids and being amazed how otherwise intelligent people can believe the kind of trash they read there.

Did Browne "beat up" Hannah? Dunno. I do know he slugged her at least one good one, though, so the rest is a debate about semantics. (He *has* admitted to as much, by the way (but justified it because he "loved her so much" and "just went crazy")). I respect his privacy plenty. But I also reserve the right to judge him as an asshole. No conflict there.

To those that are stuck for an answer when someone raises the question, I usually respond with a statement about not believing what you read in the tabloids and being amazed how otherwise intelligent people can believe the kind of trash they read there.

welcome to the STEELY DAN ultimate trivia test (or it's a slow day at work....and... the boss doesn't know I'm on the internet!!!)

all questions verified by STEELY DAN: ALL THE FACTS (Barrytown Press) (now out of print)

1. Which track was inexpilcably edited by one minute when it was re-issued on vinyl for it's second run ...only to have it's full version restored when issued on cd many years later?

2. What were Steely Dan's only 2 Top 40 hits in the UK?

3. Which track recorded by Steely Dan had previously been a Top 10 hit for another artist?

4. What other famous songwriting duo had a popular song called 'Do It Again'?

5. and for 25 bonus points and an autographed picture of Bob Eubanks......What do Donald Fagen's mother and Billie Hollyday have in common???? all correct responses will be rewarded with the warm knowledge that they are one of the few....the mighty..who are Steely Dan Educated!!!! Did 'Bodhisattva' shine in Japan???? you'll both get your honorary degrees in Dandom soon...but there is still 3 more questions...."Steely Dan for $500 Alex".........

StAL: Please forget my problem with the background:someone's been doing a bit of fixing on the network here and screwed up my parameters. It is now a very nice relaxing shade of green indeed.

Aja: apologies accepted... I have days (ha! weeks) like that too. Hope a little SD was adequate therapy. On the down side, no to Bodhisattva too (though I had to check the spelling)...

And this trivia answer is... (rustle of envelope) break out your UK pressings of Royal Scam: The Caves of Altamira spellt 'Altmira' on the label (!)... plus the misspellt 'Altimira' version on the 'Sun Mountain' early years LP (or at least I think that's right) and who knows, also mispellt on the CD version, Catalyst and Roaring of the Lamb. If you haven't heard it, the early version has that great raw demo feel about it that makes you appreciate the final version even more - oh that D&W weren't such perfectionists and released a few demos now and again.

Back to the personal stories again (running out of them): while I was seeing my folks back in the old country, I dug out a few pieces of memorabilia (and a heavy pile of toy cars for my son to lug homewards, but that's another story) including a much-prized Steely Dan concert poster for Leeds University (early 1975 I think)- featuring Desperate Dan(!) running along carrying a copy of Pretzel Logic... It kind of shames me now to think I didn't go, but at the back of my mind I have the feeling that the concert was cancelled due to illness. Can anyone help? (it's probably in the Sweet book, but I haven't got that far yet).

For football-heads only, from Richard Littlejohn in today's Soccernet:

'If there was one player you could pluck out of history to play for England's future tomorrow night it would have to be Bryan Robson. This is the man who played with a leather harness to keep his dislocated shoulder in place in 1986. He was a world-class player in a moderate era.

Robson and Glenn Hoddle represented two different strands and philosphies. Robson's substance generally prevailed over Hoddle's style when the Engand team was chosen. Robson was Captain Courageous, the first name on the teamsheet. Hoddle was considered - not by all of us but by most of those who matter - a fancy-dan luxury player.

Now they are managers, Hoddle is the main man. Fancy Dan becomes Steely Dan'.

Aja: Correct trivia answer. Libby Titus is the common link between Donald F. and Levon H. (I hope they don't call her a common denominator). That lady must have something that attracts great rock and roll vocalists

On the subject of vocal harmonies: Since the harmonies are among Steely Dan's most unique signatures, and no one seems to discuss them in this forum, let me throw out some general questions to the resident experts: 1) Did Donald Fagen devise all the harmonies and meticulously teach them to the other vocalists a la' Brian Wilson? 2) Did the harmonies just come together from everyone doing their own ideas. 3) Did DF harmonize with himself a la'Neil Sedaka? 4)Why did the groups first two successes, DO IT AGAIN and FIRE IN THE HOLE, make no use of their great harmonizing abilities? 5) Why didn't they ever re-use that Zombie-like harmony from TURN THAT HEARTBEAT...? My guess is that there's some Fagenistic perfectionism behind every note.

I was just thumbing through my latest BMG catalog and noticed they had the Citizen Dan box set on sale for $24.98 (U.S.). Even with the charges for shipping and handling you save $30.00. Not bad. Here is their piece of shit web site: www.bmgmusicservice.com. I say piece of shit because it takes over a minute before anything appears on the screen, plus it is a nightmare to navigate. Other than that they have great deals sometimes...

Oleander - I hadn't really thought about it 'til you brought it up: "For seven seconds it's like Christmas Day...", but now that you have isolated that phrase from it's context, well, what came to my mind (no pun intended) was a metaphor for sex. But then again it's been so long since I've had sex, what the fuck do I know?

WARNING: Prolonged celibacy may have possible adverse affects on one's mental health. (and definiltly on one's mood!)

BTW - What the hell is that sound in the background, about 4:42 into the song, while DF sings "...frozen..."?

Dan Nut: My guess is that BACK HOME AGAIN was the John Denver song that out-sold Steely Dan's biggest hit back in 1974. That was perhaps the best year ever for classic albums (we old people still call them albums): Blood On the Tracks, Pretzel Logic, Good Old Boys, and Southern Cross/Northern Lights to name a few.

Aja: I don't think Libby or I would take offense to her being referred to in mathematical terms. You, however, may be experiencing some hyper-sensitivity for reasons that you implied in your last posting. You may find yourself putting sexual connotations on many songs lately. I have no good advice for that dilemma but keep in mind: The risk is great; the pleasure is momentary; and the position is ridiculous. You are, after all, posting to a website dedicated to a group named after a sexual device.

Oleander--SNOWBOUND doesn't strike me as a particularly metaphoric song;I thought it was just a mood. But that seven seconds of light may subconciously refer to the elusive muse that hides in the darkness causing an artist to go 11 years between works.

RS:

Bingo! Although Snowbound was written in the nid-80's and not a part of the songs framed in Kamakiriad, it works in that it expresses a creative struggle which blends with the expression of apprehension and excitement of renewed collaboration say on Trans-Island Skyway. DF was mired in writers block, looking for diversion and even inspiration, and was probably having a difficult time getting to the "heart" of the matter. The subconscious-driven imagery in "Snowbound" is rampant and thus fits in nicely with that approach which I believe shapes Kama...or of course, Snowbound can alsways be taken at face value.

Clas - Guess I wasn't thinking about the guys when I wrote that, orgasms are completly different for us females, hell different from one orgasm to another. Some are slow waves of bliss, others ripping through you like a convulsion. I'm glad I'm not a guy, we don't have to worry about holding off on having an orgasm and are apable of unlimited number. And why are you so angry, dear? Come here honey, looks like you need a hug. XOXO

On the dead - why is it that so many feel that we must revere someone just becuase they are dead (or a celebrity for that matter)? When I was just a baby my parents had some sort of run in with John Denver. Of course I was too young to remember and I never bothered to ask for the whole story since I have rarely seen my mother more angry than when his name was brought up.

More on sex - one of the reasons I have been celibate as long as I have has been I didn't feel the pleasure would be worth the risk in many cases. However, there are times when it seems to be the only thing on my mind. I guess it's not entirely about sex, a lot of it is about intimacy.

Gaucho -Before I saw your last post I was going to say: not all of us gringos define ourselves by territorial borders. I'll still stand by that, even though I realise you were making that same point. As, for your last post, LOL, you are correct about that idiot!

Ok boys and girls. Can we cut the nationalist posturing? The argument cannot be won. I admit it is easy to want to tear into the fact Clas is consistently bashing the US, yet he rarely acknowledges the most definite weaknesses in his own society.

Gaucho is just plain funny, but obviously watches way too much U.S. television.

Regardless of borders, we all belong to once race (except Clas of course...). Let's just leave it at that.

Now that the warm/fuzzy shit is out of the way, what about John Denver? I mean, it certainly is a shame he had to die that way, but I've heard from MANY different sources that he was a complete and utter asshole. Is this true? If so, should his death be treated with reverence similar to they way we treated that jerk-off Nixon when we buried his sorry ass?

Thoughts?

We went back & saw them again after Mitchell left the group and was replaced by that dead guy. I still have, buried in a musty trunk somewhere, a photo of my beaming face with John Denver's arm around me. Blackmail material.

jon--Hey man, I'm leaving Wednesday am. Try again tomorrow. BTW, remember those Pepe LePew cartoons where the cat always crawls under a freshly-painted white fence and gets a skunk stripe? I have this vision of you crawling under a yellow one....

It's really menat quite vaguely as I pretty much know noting about what they are up to. There are folks here and elsewhere on the Internet who know more than I. Oleander - there was a time back when Seinfeld was good. My friends sometimes called me Elaine. I had the hair some of the same mannerisms etc. My theory on why the show has gone downhill - It used to be a show we could relate to, as in,"hey, wait a minute, that's me! They' ve made my life into a sitcom." Now the unbelievable plot twists and ridiculous (but not funny) situations have turned a top rate comedy into an assine farce.

My point is this.

In the realm of ideas there is little space for the "my daddy is going to beat up your daddy" or "my country is bigger than your country, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah". Only the logic of your thoughts and the acceptance of your premisses by the people you are addressing count. The rest is bullshit.

In the realm of ideas it doesn't matter where you are, who you are, what color you are, or how big you like it. Only the soundness of your thoughts will make you prevail.

So quit giving us this crap about how cool the US is.

Hey steelydave: the url for the steelydan concerts web page is: http://hem1.passengen.se/steelydan/sd_concerts.htm Steely Dan's first concerts were in late 1972 when they performed in small nightclubs at the behest of ABC Records executives..these gigs were done mainly to promote the group for the rock press..in much of 1973 they were used as the opening act for people like the Kinks, the James Gang and even Elton John....Becker and Nichols claimed to have recorded all of their gigs and in 1975 Fagen and Becker pitched the idea of a live lp to the mafia at ABC but where turned down...twenty years later we got Alive In America...

if Steely Dan tours again I vote for China Crisis as an opening act...their last lp ( a hard to get import) has steely influence all over it...I was able to see them in concert when they collaborated with Becker in '85 and they were spectacular....

To be fair, his songs helped my SO through the time when her husband was dying, so the man also did considerable good in this world...

oleander: First time I heard the term "snakehips" was in a song from the Love and Money CD that Gary Katz produced. Maybe DF liked it too.

steviedan: Are you talking about "Warped By Success"? Is it worth the effort to acquire? The two China Crisis albums that WB worked on are pretty good. They helped me get through the long years between "Nightfly" and "Kamakiriad," anyway.

GOD BLESS (ok) AMERICA;

yeah, you are right, it´s pretty cold here now, too.

And yes, maybe it is a kind of obsession, this US love and/or hate. Or fascination, that a country that produces so much crap (talking about culture/showbiz, food here) also produces so much damn good things. Steely Dan for example. Bruce Hornsby, Parker, Bud Powell, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Cristopher Walken and MEG RYAN! And on...

A fascination that a country with so many great authors also has a lot of shitwriters. And Hollywoodcrap - damn good movies.

But, I think it is just how it must be, minus - plus.

Things get more obvious the bigger they are. And I believe you can take some of my criticism for what it is, a kind of jokey tongue in cheek-thing.

And remember, I wouldn´t piss on your country if it were smaller than Sweden. I would probably not know about it either.

Peace Brother, and remember, Gaucho is a damn funny motherfucker. And bright too. We don´t see that kind of thing too often on this GBook.

PS Hank; "All of my life it's as sharp as the Bigger the punch I'm feeling..." a good song. But did Becker really produce two China C-albums?

Ehhh... eh, yes, and he bumpes into this couple who have this nice house down the block. He askes them if they have anything that is in need to be fixed. The couple look at each other and... and... (what the hell was the story now again) ... yes, THEY HAVE something. The male part of the couple says to the handicap, no, the handyman, that the front of his Ferrari should be painted. And in the same breath he asks the handy man how much money he wants to do the job. The handyman says he is satisfied with 52,50 bucks. So, the deal is done and the male part of the couple shows the handyman where the, where the, paint and brushes and stuff are. When the male part comes back to the female part the female part says to her husband; - How could you be so cruel, 52,50 bucks, our Ferrari stretches all around the house...

No, I don´t remember. Something is wrong here.

Ruby, can you help me out here?

Just for the record. I AM AN AMERICAN.

Simply Amazed = Simple minded (You just don't get it. Do you ?)

God Bless America - I'll tell you a secret. God doesn't exist, just ask that fucker on the wheelchair who speaks with a computer.

A Steely Dan story to share with everybody. This is the third time this happens to me. I'm driving back to my house from the office and I really need to go to the bathroom to take a dump. Just when I'm getting into the driveway, the radio station starts playing a Steely Dan song (the last one was Peg) and I can't stay in the car and listed to the whole song because I need to take a shit. This sucks!! So I rush inside, take the quickest dump in the history of mankind, clean my asshole in the bidee, wipe my butt with the Bill Clinton towel I have specially for that purpose, rush out to turn on the radio, but the song is over.

Now, has this happened to anyone before??

Thanks

Gaucho

Hank: that would be 'Warped By Success' although I picked it up in Singapore (of all places) under the title 'Wishful Thinking' as double album (half live/half studio)...they're kinda like a cross between steely and stevie wonder...

other steely sounding acts worth checking out: Nik Kershaw circa 1983, Nick Heyward circa 1986 and a now defunct Brit pop band: Orange Juice!

Clas:Becker worked with China Crisis in 1984/5 and then again in 1989 on an album that was released (briefly) on A&M called 'The Diary of a Hollow Horse'...the album sold so poorly that China Crisis got dropped from their UK label!

a quick, interesting, inquiry...we all know that Donald Fagen is Jewish (depite his Irish sounding last name)...I've always thought that Becker looked slightly Asian?! although Becker of course is a German surname...anybody have any thoughts on this??!!

Joe M JGMurtha@aol.com Wed Oct 15 14:46:26 PDT 1997

It's called "Chris Potter - Unspoken" on the Concord Jazz label (CCD-4775-2). 9 tracks, all by Chris. A couple of standouts - "New Vision" with John Scofield and Chris providing some exceptional soloing - "Time Zone" a real free form number with Jack DeJohnette in top form on drums (as always) - "Amsterdam Blues" a Parkeresque ditty, Scofield and Potter take a couple of fine solos here - "No Cigar" Dave Holland gets to stretch out on this one - "Hieroglyph" - Potter shows his Ornette Coleman leanings.

The liner notes included a list of previous Chris Potter appearences but (oddly) failed to mention "Alive In America". An all around fine CD IMHO...

Off to get Mr. Silver's latest.

Oleander: I meant to ask this a while back... Does the leopard skin pill box hat outfit come complete with the powder blue librarian reading glasses, the wife-of-an-Astronaut hairdo and the Jackie-O stirrup slacks? Please to comment on "Time Out Of Mind" as I'm on the fence as to whether to plunk down a Jackson for it.

Gaucho; Mazzeratti? No, this joke is not about no conductor, must have been some limo or something, a long car...

Stevie Dan; Thanks, there´s a special place in my heart for that first album. We came off the ferry from Sweden in to Fredrikshavn, the danish town, an early morning, China Crisis was on and it we was heading north to Skagen, the northest town in Denmark, famous for its special light.We were driving the coastway and it was so beatuiful, the sea and and the rising sun and the speakers went;

"All of my life it's as sharp as the bigger the punch I'm feeling..."

Then my son, at the time 11, puked on the mines (on the dunes) from the war is another story... maybe a kind a of Steely-moment, what do you say Gauch? My son is vomiting on german mines while China Crisis is pouring out from the speakers? Make sence, somewhere.

a review of Steely Dan tracks recorded by other artists (or it's a real slow day at work, and the boss is on vacation!!)

'Do It Again' by Eumir Deodato 1973: A great live version that featured Billy Cobham and Stanley Clarke..check it out on 'Live at the Felt Forum' cd on cbs/cti...

'Time Out of Mind' by Grover Washington Jr.: Although I'm a big Grover fan I found this version flat and uninspired... 1990 cbs/columbia

'Reeling In The Years' by Donnie & Marie Osmond...adds new dimension to Bard College memories...but perhaps Barrytown would have been more appropriate for these two?!?! from ABC TV program

Green Earrings/Aja by Woody Herman & the Thundering Herd Awesom big band arrangements by Alan Broadbent...check out Vic Feldman's very cool vibe solo on 'Earrings....I have this on vinyl from circa 1980..does anyone know if this was issued on cd???

'Bye Bye Dallas' by Poco circa 1974...pretty good rendition with Tim Scmit on lead vocal...weird song about a tramp and JFK's ghost...ABC Records

'Black Friday'/medley by David Garfield 1997 just came out ...funky with great percussion solo ...he also does 'Babylon Sisters' cbs cd

gotta go back to f*&%$ing work!

Nothing spoils the perfect moment like trying to share it with someone, however, we're pretty Damned happy, and you folks are the only ones who might be able to appreciate it.

The wife and I are from Northern California but we commute to Dallas every week for work. Dallas is not necessarily a cultural Mecca, and it has been said that it is a place where it's more prestigious to buy a piece of art than to create one. (Although I work in a building called the Renaissance Tower, and it maintains it's renaissance theme by piping in Muzac 24 hours a day (and there is the occasional Dan toon in that mix)). But, I digress. Anyway, we're on vacation next week and were spending it in San Diego. As LUCK would have it The Steely Damned, and I assume boblovesbob, will be playing on Friday night (according to the cannibal bar answering machine message, which I have chosen to take as gospel.) A night of living Damned could not come at a more appropriate time, and I'm squeelin' like a stuck pig, as they say here in Texas. (Disclaimer: "squeelin' like a stuck pig " is a metaphorical construct, no actual pigs were harmed the posting of this message.)

Pink drinks for everybody!!! We'll maybe not everybody.....that's a really big band, and the holidays are right around the corner....

After that I willl then stock the shelves at Specs & Borders, etc. in order to disseminate yet another Steely Dan bootleg CD(complete catalog available upon request- discounts available for purchases of 50 or more titles)- so anyway- like wow- the gig was so cool-but of course I too will not respond to any requests by 2nd rate Danfans to know what material eminated from the "Donald gig(with the hip young drummer)" as-well, you scurvy bro's just simply don't deserve to be privy. As a final concession regarding your patronage of my Steely Dan bootlegging business I just want to say that if you order before midnight OR prior to Don&Walt being inducted to the beloved and artistically vital institution known as Rock&Roll HOF- then you will recieve a free 20X10 poster(shot live from "the gig") of Kinky hanging on to Donald's Rhodes screaming(caption provided)-"please tell Walt to give me an active Email account too!!!"

PEG; goodafternoon Peg. I have never had the honor to address a post to you before though my wishes on that one has been quite opposite. First I wish to compliment you for this wonderful name of yours. Maybe there is no need for me to tell YOU that a very famous Jazz-Lounge Band named a song after your name and is describing your life in it as well. But I am not stupid, I guess you already knew all that.

When the slow mind of mine today realiesed that you, dear Peg, are singing and playing the tambourin with mr Tedde and his Combo, things where put on there heads. I am very sorry for not paying attention to you before and doing this now has nothing to do that I now realise that you are a rockstar.

I wonda, wanda, no, wonder if you could ask mr Tedde, in all this nice tenderness you can gather, with those tiny but, ack, so cute little hands of yours, a question tonight or in the weekend when you are "giggling " with him on that hotell in San Diego?

Question:

What does mr Tedde think is most important nowdays; spend time with his little newborn daughter or POST POSTINGS ON THIS GUESTBOOK?

sincerely yours, Clas

PS I am not so sure about the word "giggling", I am not familiar with the rockterms, maybe it should be "playing" or "gigging" or "jamming"?

I love the weird fuck so much I think I will buy the first life size paraphine Fripp statue to be produced.Kenny Wayne felt good, Vai put a tipical gringo show, fan and all, Satriani has more feeling. Almost got nailed in the head by Satriani's drummer, but even though I was no longer the designated driver, a quick reflex got me the prize. Wow, now I have water on the brain. I finally recieved the CD of the Manassas show in 96 (re: The Video). So what if it's made in Luxembourg. The sound quality is excellent, almost on par with the KTS version of the Riverbend concert in 93. It is truly amazing to hear the differnce in the arrangements between the two concerts. The 1996 tour was definately more jazz oriented and D&W definately more vocal with the crowd. The 1993 arrangements sound so much more like the studio releases. (I sort of like them better) Since I sated up all night to listen to both concerts back to back twice, I now feel like I am starting to get over the Post Concert Tour Blues and am coming down with the Pre New Album Shakes. At least I can listen to Jack of Speed and Wet Side Story.

I was at the OSU/PSU game last weekend. 7 hours of SD both ways. My ears are still ringing from the noise that 97,000+ screaming manaics can make plus my seats are two rows behind the OSU band. Yes that is me in the blue sweatshirt you see when they score in that endzone. They call Alabama the Crimson Tide, call Penn State #1.

See_Here Oh Q, Oh Q, Oh Q - And what a great show it was!! Well, there's one person that posted on the usenet about the Fagen/Krantz show, and the only extra info given there was that Will Lee played bass and that Donald played the Wurlitzer. That's funny, it looked like the same Fender Rhodes he played on the tour. How enlightening. Nothing like accurate info, huh?

Hip? Yeah, it's real hip to inform some of the resident psychos here where Donald may be likely to show.

Becker?! But he hardly ever drinks, almost never wants to. Not quite a teetotaler, but damn near.

Just the latest in a very long line of similar gambits from our classy friend:

"To speak or imply evil of for the purpose of injuring and without regard for the truth"

"A false report or insinuation maliciously uttered and tending to injure the reputation of a person"

"Spoken or written statement, representation, or contextual speculation that gives an unjustly unfavorable impression of a person or a thing"

Most curious. I wonder why he does that--don't you?! I very much doubt his problem with alcohol is a sufficient explanation.

OK So call Penn State #2. Since the Cornhuskers are #1, I thought a little bit of Univ. of Nebraska home town Steely Dan trivia was in order. In 1972 (I think) the last stop on the tour was - you guessed it Lincoln, Nebr. The Boys opened for Frank Zappa and played Bodhisattva twice (Can you imagnie such a thing in the early 70's). To quote messr. Fagen: "That was the last show of that tour, That was utterly strange" I didn't think Zappa did drugs raising that dental floss. For those of you who haven't been to Lincoln, after the stadium there isn't much except corn fields and the roller skating hall of fame. There is a pretty good restraunt called Misty's that roasts whole cows and serves a great steak sandwich - if you can tolerate all of the U of N paraphernalia. Do you think Don and Walt had the longest hair in town. Maybe there is something to going to LA via Omaha.
